Bloomsburg Comes Up Short at PSAC Softball Championships
Game One
Game Two
LOCK HAVEN--The Bloomsburg University softball team came up short in its bid for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship after it lost a 3-0 decision to Lock Haven on Saturday. The Huskies had reached the title round after a 2-0, nine-inning win over Kutztown.
In the championship game Amanda Roosa's first inning two-run homer was all the Lady Eagles would need as it would claim its third straight PSAC championship. Lock Haven (43-6) would add an additional insurance run in the second inning when a Julia Popovich single scored pinch runner Kristin Schoenig giving Lock Haven a 3-0 lead.
Bloomsburg's best chance to score came in the third inning when the Huskies got a single from Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) leading off the inning. Jill Homyak (Lehighton/Marian Catholic) then came in to run for Corliss and moved to second with two outs after a sacrifice bunt. Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport).then singled, but Homyak was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.
Lock Haven pitcher Kristin Erb, who was named the tournament MVP, pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout and struck out eight.
Bloomsburg reached the title game with a thrilling 2-0, nine-inning win over Kutztown. Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) and Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) led off the ninth inning with back-to-back singles. After a strikeout, Corliss singled home Mauro with the game's first run. Kayleen Sidisky (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) then followed with a single scoring Koch to make it a 2-0 game.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bloomsburg's Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) got the Golden Bears in order to pick up the victory. Lynn struck out six and did not walk a batter in going the distance.
Bloomsburg, now 48-9, will now wait for word on Monday if it has qualified for next week's NCAA regional championship.
